Choosing a Recruiter: Is Your CV Protected?

As a physician, your curriculum vitae (CV) is your most important asset during the job search process. When it comes time to choose a locum recruiter, or any health care employment agency, protecting your CV from misuse should be a major factor in your decision.

4 Steps to Protecting Your Curriculum Vitae

To prevent the misuse of your CV and personal information, there are several key questions to ask your recruiter before providing your information to them.

1. Will your CV be kept confidential? When working with recruitment firms, it is important to ensure the confidentiality of all the materials you provide to them. There are firms who will not hesitate to “blast” your CV to every hospital in their system; this can be hazardous to your job search. When working with Linde Healthcare, your recruiter will always secure your permission before presenting your CV to a client.

2. At what stage in the process will you be asked to provide personal information? Don’t provide highly personal information, such as your social security number, to a recruiter before discussing job opportunities with the company. The recruitment firm shouldn’t need that information until they begin the placement process.

3. Will your CV be displayed online without your consent? If the recruitment firm has a website highlighting qualified physician candidates in a publicly-accessible area, ask your recruiters to ensure that none of your personal information is displayed alongside it. Your CV can not only be grabbed by other recruitment firms, but also by identity thieves.

4. Will your CV be made available to third-party sources? It is common for recruitment companies to share databases with their sister companies and subsidiary groups. However, it is important to ask your recruiter if they frequently share information with third-party vendors or other affiliated companies for purposes other than what you originally intended.

Choosing a recruitment firm to represent you in an ethical fashion is essential to the success of your job search.
