Getting Started with Locum Tenens

Are you a physician or advanced practice clinician who is ready to get started in locum tenens? Here's how the Locum Leaders process works.

Phase 1: Locums Application & Information Gathering

  • Initial meeting. One of our search consultants will discuss your personal and professional needs and qualifications, and answer any questions about how locum tenens works. [03]
     
  • Phase 2: Your Job Introduction/Interview

  • Locum job opportunities. We contract with top healthcare facilities around the U.S., and work to find a locum employment agreement that suits your needs.
  • Submittal of your candidate package. For the jobs you choose, your Locum Leaders consultant will submit your screened CV or résumé and any supporting documentation.
  • Telephone interview.We’ll set up a phone interview between you and the employer, and help you prepare.
     
  • Phase 3: Locum Tenens Assignment Details

  • Licensing assistance. After an offer is made and accepted, your Locum Leaders consultant helps coordinate all necessary licensing on your behalf.
  • Locum tenens salary payment. We compensate clinicians as independent contractor(s), and reimburse any additional fees or expenses incurred according to the travel policy. 

  • Phase 4: Your Evaluation

  • Evaluation. After your assignment, you and the employer will each complete an evaluation. The results help ensure future locum jobs will meet your preferences.

     
  • Required Documentation for Locum Tenens Jobs

    We usually request the following list of documents (i.e., photocopies of the originals); having them on hand helps you lock down new locum opportunities [04.5] as quickly as possible. Many are necessary for submitting your credentials for locum tenens jobs, as well as to apply for hospital privileges and licensure.

  • Your current curriculum vitae (CV)/résumé
  • Medical school or other graduate program diploma
  • Internship, residency and fellowship certificates
  • Specialty board certificates or credentials
  • Current state license card (for each applicable state)
  • ECFMG (if applicable)
  • DEA license
  • Each state-controlled substance license (if applicable)
  • One passport-sized photo (preferred) and/or a clear copy of your driver’s license
  • Three (3) references
  • W-9 form (when you have been placed)
